About this Web Site

This web page is the beginning of a larger website that is being set-up to deliver data and offer a range of functions relating to water levels and flooding in the River Lee Catchment.

This is an implementation of the IDS Floodwatch System is designed to keep the people of Cork city and county informed about what is happening with their river.  This station at the Lee Maltings is the first of what we expect will be more than 10 stations loacated throughout the catchment and reporting data to register users in near real-time. The system will include real-time data of water levels, flow and other data where available and it will provide links to other related pertinent datasets.

Once operational  in the spring 2011 the system will offer a range of alert services including email and SMS alert messaging. Currently all services are made available at no charge to users and it is intended that most services will remain so.  Some services such as alerts and real-time data viewing require that you register on the site. In addition if you register you will also be included in a mailing list providing updates regarding the roll-out of new stations and services and on matters relating to flooding in the Lee Catchment.

The system is operated by IDS Monitoring with some sponsorship and support for some stations from various organsiations. For further information on the Floodwatch technology or any aspect of this site please contact us at floodwatch@idsmonitoring.com.

About this Station

This station is implemented in the grounds of the Tyndal Institute and is a partnership station between Tydnall and IDS Monitoring. Water level is measured using a pressure transducer located in the channel away from the quayside where the river bed dries-out at low water.

Data from the pressure transducer is read using a Tyndall PSoc interface and data is transmitted on a wirless network to an IDS Monitoring DataPOD where data is logged and transmitted to the IDS Floodwatch System. The Pressure transducer is a druck PTX 1830.
